Disc golf tournament to benefit the Wiregrass Area Food Bank
By Ashley D. Rubin
Fanatix, a locally owned and operated business, has expanded it’s passion for the public yet again. The company has been part of the Wiregrass community for seven years in Dothan, Enterprise and Troy. They do not stop at just a storefront, either. Even though they specialize in comics and tabletop games, they have a colossal heart for the local community. In addition to their contribution to the area already, Fanatix will host a disc golf tournament benefiting the Wiregrass Area Food Bank.
What exactly does the Wiregrass Area Food Bank do? This hunger relief agency serves several counties all over the area. Cultivating community awareness for the local starving daily is the main drive. Sometimes we as a community do not realize how many people of the Wiregrass will go to bed hungry tonight. The numbers are alarming, and there is no better time than right now to help fight the hunger. This organization makes it easier for locals to obtain needed food when their current resources are not able to provide. The main focus is the elderly and children who have a harder time providing for themselves. They also have several opportunities for donation and volunteering, if disc golf isn’t your jam.
Some may already be aware of disc golf and the objective – or you might just be clueless like I was! A quick description would be a sport somewhat like regular golf. Golf discs (similar to frisbees) are aimed for a “disc hole pole.” The goal of disc golf is to complete your turn with the fewest number of throws to the hole. A course can be 9 or 18 pole holes long. Fanatix has become a hot spot to pick up disc golf gear. They have some of the top disc brands available right in store. They even have a website you can locate through the Fanatix website.
This local company and local agency will fuse together on June 16, 10 am-1 pm at Taylor Recreational Park. Registration will be by walk up and is open to all ages. It will be an event for the whole family. No need to be a disc golf pro, it’s all for the greater good of community. Locals helping locals.
