Focusing on The Local: August 2012
Welcome to the August issue of The Local. This month we take a look at some of the exercise options available for locals interested in a healthier lifestyle, Dr. Hovey discusses the dangers of obesity, and a Dothan entrepreneur submits a business plan for a local health food truck. Local activity is the focus for each issue and we strive to feature the businesses and individuals that help make Dothan a healthier community. We want to know what locals do to stay fit and active. What restaurants have the best healthy menu options or use locally grown produce? We want to share the stories of great employers in our area that give back to their employees, environment, or local community.
The Local has an opportunity to become the comprehensive event guide for our area. We are constantly expanding our event listing to include items ranging from family fun to nightlife drink specials and everything in between. Dothan already offers events and activities to suit almost any interest and we want to contribute to that culture by promoting those activities that bring about positive change. We want to see healthy, positive people in action whether that’s on the bike trail or in the boardroom.
This month, we’ve dedicated our back cover to promoting your local business. We’ve all seen “Buy Local” campaigns before but it never hurts to push a positive message. We encourage you to cut out the back page and post it in your
business, near your register, in your window, or – to quote Dothan’s proposed sign ordinance – “where ever you find it
to promote a higher aesthetic and visual character”.
