Give Thanks by Giving Back!
We are quickly approaching the holiday season and what a better way to get into than finding a community giveback program you can join in on! We have graciously compiled a list of opportunities for you to get involved. So read on and be what’s happening!
Brown Bag Program- Wiregrass Area Food Bank operates this program designed for individuals over the age of 60 who may need some assistance. Seniors in several surrounding areas are provided each month with bags of groceries. And the best part- there are several ways to get involved. You can sponsor program participants, volunteer at a distribution site, volunteer to deliver items to participants, and there are several other options as well. Check out www.wiregrassfoodbank.com to get involved today.
Santa for Seniors- This project kicks off on November 8th with hopes to spread some Christmas cheer to Wiregrass seniors. These seniors are in need of items for basic everyday living. Participants are elected by SARCOA case managers, and they consist of seniors who are in dire need, have low income and are alone. In 2018, there were over 400 seniors who fit this need. So hop on the link and be something to someone this Christmas. https://sarcoa.org/santa-for-seniors/
Food Pantry at Beverlye Intermediate School- A 9-year came up with this concept, so if she can do this, so can all of us find a way to help. There are actually several schools in the area whose students do not get proper food because of their home circumstances. You can individually reach out to schools and ask them if they are in need of food items for their students. Some schools even provide a weekend lunch sack they send home with their students. This is also a great opportunity to see if any students might need school supplies as well.
Toys for Tots- But guess what, this one comes with a party! The Thirsty Pig Taproom is hosting a Toy Drive Party with Inspector 6. Toys for Tots has been going on for years, and has been providing Christmas presents for children who may not have a Christmas otherwise. On December 6th, bring an unwrapped toy to donate, and then enjoy the night with live music and even a parade. For more information, check out https://www.facebook.com/events/396054501072259/.
These are just a few options to get more involved and become a vital member of our community! Keep checking us out for more opportunities to be what’s happening!
