Little Black Dress!
If you are in the Wiregrass area and you happen to be looking for some out-of-the-box entertainment in July, look no further. Little Black Dress- The Musical! is sure to rock your socks off. Dothan has yet to have a theatrical performance experience like this. Perfect for a girls night out or an off-the-wall date night, LBD will hit the Dothan Opera House on July 16th for one night only. Inspired by their roles in a parody play, Danielle Trzcinski and Amanda Baker linked up with two of their friends, Natalie Tenenbaum and Christopher Bond to birth this unforgettable show that happens to be making one of their national tour stops here in Dothan.
Danielle and Amanda spent three years together being on tour with Spank! The Fifty Shades of Grey Parody! Women from all over were gathering to experience this theatrical performance, leading Danielle and Amanda to get those wheels working to create something of their own. I had a phone conversation with the New York native, Danielle, and her vivacious spirit was certainly captivating. But the biggest thing I learned from this was that women’s theatre is it’s own genre which looks completely different across the states. This area has yet to experience anything like this, and it is certainly going to be one for the books. Although the show is not strictly for women, it is certainly encouraged for women to grab their best gal pals and drop all their worries for a night on the town. LBD goes so much further than just a show as it is also an experience full of careless laughter and bonding. And if I have not sold you on planning this as your next girl’s night yet, let’s see if this helps. The friends that Danielle and Amanda grabbed along the way have some well-acclaimed successes themselves. Natalie Tenebaum is a Tony-nominated vocal arranger for Mean Girls and Christopher Bond is Disenchanted’s National Tour Director. Together, these four have created an experience like none other that is coming right to our neighborhood.
I was curious how Danielle located Dothan. I figured that she possibly had family here or had heard of the town before. But much to my surprise, she happened to just be coming through town and found our Opera House quite charming- feeling a need for women to come together through heartfelt laughter in this specific area. The show includes improv, making each show unique to its own. And the experiences that the actresses go through are not only hilarious, but relatable. We are living in a time where it seems to be the year of female empowerment, and what better way to support other than women than doing so with some of your best gals!
