Oishi Sushi is Top-Notch
Oishi! In Japanese, that means “may the trees blow”…Just kidding, I’m not even going to pretend I know the real meaning of it, but here in the Wiregrass it means good sushi. (Editor’s note: “Oishi” roughly translates to “enjoyable eating experience.”)
Oishi is located on the Ross Clark Circle near Wiregrass Commons Mall in a building that used to cater to a similar taste, but Oishi is putting in work to set it itself apart. The restaurant serves a large variety of classic and specialty sushi, and the owners are not new to the game; just to Dothan. Owner Ben has owned and managed Tokyo Sushi in Daleville, feeding some of Fort Rucker’s strongest and hungriest for years.
I had the pleasure of meeting Ben and requesting his Chef Special for my meal, which was a roll he named the “Bama Girl”. It was so good that The Beach Boys are wishing they had re-thought their song lyrics. If you like spicy things, try the “Heart Attack” roll. It’s basically a deep-fried sushi jalapeño popper, and it is fantastic.
Go see Ben and his staff at Oishi and tell them The Local sent you!
