TEETH! I forgot to tell you about TEETH!

I have recently embarked on a new adventure….wait for it…Adult braces! I go to Dr. Howell Wiregrass Orthodontics Specialists. Both my Kids went there and they were blessed with my fabulously crooked crowded mouth. Now they have these, what I call “Southern Smiles”. Truly. You guys down here kill the wide toothy smile. It is stunning! I would get so jealous when I would take pictures with my southern friends and they all had these big beautiful smiles and I looked like I only had 4 teeth. So I walked my happy ass back into my Orthodontist office and said, “I’m ready for braces….again.” Again? Oh yes. I had braces as a kid but as we get older our teeth shift. Where they may once have been perfectly straight they are now crooked or crowded. There are a lot of adults that never had braces as children and are now getting them to improve crooked or crowded teeth, overbites and underbites, incorrect jaw position or jaw joint disorders. Does your Jaw click when you’re chewing or maybe cause you headaches? Also crooked and crowded teeth are hard to clean causing gingivitis and generally poor health. If you take care of your teeth you live longer.

How important is a good smile you ask?

An Invisalign smile survey was done on a representative sample of 1000 Americans both male and female between the ages of 18-50. The poll explored the importance of smiles in relations to business and careers, dating and marriage, the social arena, and the overall values of smiles and self esteem.

Results:

Importance for the ideal date 84%

Importance for succeeding at work 74%

Importance on getting the job of your dreams 74%

Importance on making new friends 71%

94% notice a smile the first time they meet someone more than their eyes, height, or figure.

Over ⅓ agreed that bad teeth over shadows the rest of a person’s appearance.

71% believe that someone with a nice smile will make friends more easily than a person with crooked teeth.

87% think that one’s smile is very important to their self esteem.

3 out of 4 adults believe that an attractive smile is important for succeeding in the workplace.

⅓ agree that a person with bad teeth gets fewer job promotions.

It’s very important!! Here are some other fun facts about a full mouth of straight teeth. Your facial appearance is better, meaning your cheeks are fuller, your lips are pushed out and more plump appearing…you look more youthful. We have talked about laser treatments, botox and fillers. These things are every bit as expensive as your braces would be and you have to have those done with MUCH more frequency.  Do your research!!! We have some amazing cosmetic dentists and orthodontists here in our Wiregrass area. Read the reviews. Also, go online there are now more braces alternatives like Candid, Orthly, Smile Direct Club. So many ways to beautify your smile such as whitening, porcelain veneers, changing your silver fillings to white. AND, don’t forget to check your insurance coverage. You may find that most of these things are covered if not partially covered by your insurance. Every little bit counts. CareCredit is a credit card company that you can only use on cosmetic procedures and you pay no interest for a year ask your dentist or orthodontist if this is an option.

Are you happy with your smile? If the answer is no. Stop waiting.  Seriously I can’t believe that I forgot to talk about teeth all this time!!! I am obsessed with pretty teeth. I should have been an Orthodontist!  Really I should have been.
